Legendary Burma with Alex Veit Tours 30 November - 14 December 2011 Including the Shan, Mon, & Kayin States 30.11, Wed: Tel-Aviv-Bangkok: 22:10 Fly non-stop to Bangkok. 01.12, Thu: Bangkok-Rangoon: Connecting flight to Rangoon (Yangon). Arrival, and transfer to hotel. Overnight: , First Class hotel (or similar). 02.-03.12, Fri-Sat: Land of the Shan: Flight to Heho, we will explore the Land of the Shan and the Inle Lake district, 850 meters above sea level. Visit the local 5-day rotating market, according to the days they are open in the region. We shall see the village of Ywama and the cultivating of crops on floating islands. We shall also go by boat to the unspoiled southern villages, where the culture and traditional life-style of the ethnic groups of Pao and Inthas and their villages still survives. 2 Overnights: to be announced . 04-05.12, Sun-Mon: Fly to Mandalay: Mandalay was the last capitol of Burma before the British took over. Visit Shwenandaw Kyaung (Golden Palace Monastery) a fine example of a former teak wood palace. Visit the famous gold leaf makers, where sheets of gold are beaten into gossamer-thin pieces, which devotes use to gild the images and stupas. Drive to Amarapura 11 km from Mandalay, visit the Mahagandayon monastery where 1300 Buddhist monks reside. Continue to U-Bein's Bridge, has stood for two centuries and remains the longest teak wood span in the world. 2 overnights Mandalay: First Class hotel (or similar) 06-07, Tue-Wed: Fly to Bagan ( Pagan). Pagan is the most amazing sight in Burma, if not South-East Asia. Across 40 sq km of country, stand literally thousands of stupas and temples. A ' Garden of Eden' for lovers of archaeologically and history. We will explore and wonder through archaeological zone. Including: A Visit to a very special remote village, there we shall experience and a special event. We shall not disclose the location of this village as we want to keep it untouched by mass tourism. 2 overnights: Resort Garden hotel (or similar). 08.12, Thu: Continue to explore Pagan. Fly back to Rangoon. Overnight: First Class hotel (or similar). 09-10.12, Fri-Sat: Head south to Mawlamyaing (formely Moulmein), the capital of Mon State. Visit Mahamuni Pagoda and the Mon Cultural Museum. See it collection of old Buddha Images, Mon language manuscripts and many more. Visit Seinton Rein’s monastery at the Mawlamyine Hill lock. Visit the Phar Auk Meditation center. See Burma's larget reclyning Budha and much more. 2 overnights: Basic, but comfortable and clean (or smilar). 11.12, Sun: By ferry we sail up the Thanlwin River. Arrive Kado Kawnyant island. Tour by horse cart: Visit Kawnyant monasteries complex dated from colonial period with unusual Buddha images and much more. Drive to Hpa An. Visit Bayin Nyi Monastery and Cave. Continue to the famous Kaw Gon Cave with it bas relief of Buddha images. Drive to town: Hpa-An : the capital of Kayin (Karen) State. Overnight: Very good Tourist class (or similar). 12.12, Mon: Return to Yangon by passing along the country side villages and rice paddy field and arrive late afternoon in Yangon. Transfer to hotel. Overnight: First Class (or similar). 13..12 Tue: Rangoon: Sight seeing in the capitol Yangoon. Visit the Moseah Yeshua Synagogue, founded over 100 years ago and the near by cemetery dating back to 1856. End the legendary tour of Burma with a visit to the Shwedagon Paya Kipling called it a 'golden mystery...a beautiful winking wonder'. Shwedagon is the most sacred of all Buddhist sites in the country. Afternoon flight to Bangkok , connecting with flight to Ben Gurion Airport ,arriving early Wednesday morning on 14.12
